Saudi seizures for year: 28 tons of hashish, 22 million amphetamine pills


Saudi police say they have seized more than 28 tons of hashish and some 22 million amphetamine pills over the past 12 months.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement Sunday that police also seized more than 57 pounds (26 kg) of heroin. They also seized 1,230 weapons, including
184 machine guns.
In August and September alone, police say they arrested 177 Saudis and 290 others suspected of smuggling drugs and weapons.
Rights group Amnesty International says Saudi Arabia has executed 63 people this year for drug-related charges out of some 151 people executed in the kingdom since January.
Last month, Lebanese airport officials seized 2 tons of amphetamine Captagon pills before they were loaded onto the private plane of a Saudi prince. The prince and four others were detained.
