A young Auckland real estate agent described as a "precious soul" has died in a fall at home.

Friends and family of Sheree "Ree" Cooney, 28, are heartbroken after she suffered fatal head injuries in Mt Eden on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to the private address shortly after 5am but the woman was dead when crews arrived, said a St John Ambulance spokesman.

Police confirmed Ms Cooney's death at a
private residence, and it has been referred to the coroner.

Those close to the Auckland woman have expressed their anguish over her sudden death.

Ms Cooney's parents, Claire Donnelly and Craig Cooney, were too upset to speak with the Herald, but said in a notice of her death that their daughter was "loved and adored".

Sarah Walker said Ms Cooney was her "oldest and dearest friend".

"Your giggle made me giggle, your laugh made me smile, your presence was my light," she said in a tribute.

Rebecca Robinson said Ms Cooney was a "precious, precious soul" and Andi Hardley said, "I wish you were still here, Ree."

Ms Cooney was an agent at Barfoot & Thompson's Blockhouse Bay branch, joining the team in May after 10 years as a marketing manager for the Property Council.

Barfoot chief executive Wendy Alexander said she sent her "deepest sympathies" to Ms Cooney's family, friends and colleagues.

A post on behalf of her colleagues at the Blockhouse Bay branch thanked Ms Cooney for her time with them. "you shone your light amongst us and laughed with us.

"As many of us have said in the last few days and other people we have spoken to at other branches have said, we have lost our beautiful girl ... beautiful in and out."

On an online profile, Ms Cooney described her love of real estate and passions outside the industry.

"Outside of real estate, I have participated in body sculpting competitions since I was in my early twenties, as well as competing in kick-boxing."

She was born and raised in the suburbs where she worked - Blockhouse Bay, Lynfield and Mt Roskill.

"I truly know the area like the back of my hand and am a great advocate for it. I have no hesitation to go the extra mile for my clients.

"Enthusiastic and diligent, I promise to take every step to make their real estate process enjoyable and stress-free."

The death notice said Ms Cooney was the "cherished sister and best friend" of her brother, Brad, and a "special and much loved step-daughter of Glennis and Phil".

It said she would be deeply missed by her grandparents, Hilda and Alwyn Manley and Toni and Paul Cooney, and special mention was also made of her "fur babies", Mitzi and Jiggerboys.

Toni Cooney was among those who have taken to social media to share their messages.

She said that "Sheree will stay forever young and beautiful" and that memories of her "beautiful granddaughter ... will always fill us with so much love."
